This is more about the people who make them than the already outstanding calls themselves.
Saturday April 17 I got a call from a friend on his way home from Bass Pro Shops. "I"ve found the best pot call you've ever heard. Meet me at the house." When my son and I got there we were introduced to the Magnum slate and aluminum calls and Wes just drooled over them. His birthday was coming up so that was an easy choice. Sunday I spent on the computer and phone but everybody was out of stock. I plugged the #'s into my phone and began calling Derby City on Monday. Everybody was out of the office so I sent an email explaining that we had just been introduced to their calls and I had an emergency. Wes's birthday was that Saturday the 23rd and he was leaving for the Air Force July 26 so this would be pur last turkey season together for a while. I offered to pay whatever it took to get it here quickly. Unfortunately the 'net filters at work kicked the emails back Undelivered. When I got home I called a dealer about 4 hours away and told him my story. He didn't have any in stock but took down my info and said he'd call me right back. When he did he said they were going to dropship one from Louisville for me. I thanked him and hung up.
Later that evening my phone lit up with an unfamiliar number. It was Jeff from Derby City. My email had gotten through and he recognized my name from the order placed by the dealer. Instantly he recommended we upgrade to the Spur. I told him I had already paid for a Magnum he just said "Don't worry about it. What do you want lasered on it?" I told him I didn't pay for that because I was much more concerned with getting it here before his birthday. "I'll take care of it. What's his name?" I spelled it out and apologized but asked if it would get here in time. "It will go out first thing in the morning. It's my honor to do it for his service." I couldn't thank him enough.
Thurday April 21st the mailman honked from the driveway. When I opened the priority package from Louisville I had to sit down for a moment. The handsomely engraved call and striker I had purchased were exactly what Wes wanted, but the real gift came from the good folks at Derby City. Thanks again.

This call is so good I never had to take it out of my pocket and the gobblers came running

My dad took me turkey hunting this past weekend with my new Derby City call for the youth. We saw a big gobbler working his way around an alfalfa field with 5 hens. We found a position we thought was good so we set up. I pulled out my new magnum flame aluminum call and made some soft clucks that got his attention immediately. He began to slowly work his way to my gun and his last parade was over. He weighed a whoppIng 26 lbs. 11 1/2 beard with 1 3/8 spurs. I will never go turkey hunting without my DCC in my vest.

I just received a thank you note from a gentleman in Florida that one of the calls was sent to and he states:
I love the call. It is VERY VERY well made and has a great sound. Will be using it when the season comes in here. I have collected calls for approx. 12 years now and this is one of the finer ones that I now own.

My good friend David Berry had me try his Magnum Mahogany Aluminum over Glass call this year. This call is so loud even on a windy day you could hear it from a very long distance its also very easy to use. My brother Danny and I both love the product.

The new Magnum call arrived today, prompt service! I'm going to locate some scotch-brite tomorrow and get at it. Nice wood, finish and engraving! Thanks for the instrument catalog, I just happen to play accoustic guitar and sing harmony backup with 2 groups, one with a bit of a bluegrass passion. Strange our paths should cross... Thanks again, Len Lobb

I just wanted to let you know that I received the package in the mail yesterday and LOVE the call. It is exactly what I wanted and I couldn't be happier. I played it some in the morning and loved the sound of it, and I had already been planning on going out with my bow that afternoon. Well I am normally the guy that I completely loaded down with calls up the wazzu, but yesterday I decided I wanted to go light and I decided to only bring my new call with me. This is a big deal for me since I usually carry a box, 4 slates, 8 strikers, locators, and 7 mouth calls. Well I had my bow with me and since I was traveling light I decided to stalk the turkeys rather than sit in a blind. I got out to the woods at 3:45 PM and I knew where they hung out at that time of day. I stalked into the area and hit the slate every few steps trying to locate them but didn't get any response. I ended up walking up on a strutter at 20 yards across the dried up creek bed. I had to get set-up fast and the only place I could while still having a shot was a three foot deep cut-out that used to be a cow path, on the bank of the creek. Well I hit my Derby City slate call one more time and that was it, they came in on a string and I nailed the biggest of the 6 toms with my bow at 14 yards. I knew you wanted me to send some pictures of me with the call when I got it. Hope you don't mind if there is a turkey in the picture too haha. Fell free to use any of the pictures for anything you want and thank you again for this opportunity. I know Bryce was watching over me on this one.

I just wanted to drop you a quick note to express my appreciation for your fantastic calls. I first heard of your calls when Dave Shuffett featured it on an episode of “KY Life” last year. After looking you up on the internet, my interest was peeked and I intended to contact you about visiting your business to see your calls first hand. Unfortunately that didn’t occur, but in January at the Louisville Outdoor Show, I stopped at the “Poor Boys Outdoors” booth and was able to see and try one of your Magnum Slate Calls. I was hooked from that point on and tried unsuccessfully to buy one of the calls that they were displaying. They explained that Bass Pro Shops was carrying the calls, and I made up my mind that I was going to get one.
I live in Northern KY and since January, have been calling my local BPS store to ask when they were going to get the calls. Finally, with turkey season quickly approaching, I finally ordered one online from BPS. The call arrived a few days before the season opener, and I was a bit disappointed. The call appeared to have been used and there were some nicks on the end of the striker (the slate had been scruffed up by someone who didn’t know what they were doing.) Anyway, I kept the call and am very glad I did, because I was able to turn a very dismal season into a fantastic success. The first half of the season, I was ill with Bronchitis and Sinunitis and unable to hunt. When I finally got out the during the last part of the season, the birds were a bit spooky from hunter pressure and the weather. With all of the rain, wind and cool temps, the toms weren’t very talkative or cooperative until I started yelping on the Magnum. Thanks to my new “best” call, I was able to coax three mature toms to come over 170 yards. Although they were very cautious and only a couple of the birds gobbled sporadically, they strutted and displayed all the way in. The lead bird never made a sound and was the spookiest of the three. He’d strut only for a few seconds and then stand erect searching for any sign of danger or the “hen” that he’d heard earlier. A couple of light purrs on the slate was all it took to coach him into 25 yards when I decided to harvest him. I’ve attached some pics of my trophy. He weighed 23 ½ lbs, had 1 1/8” spurs, and more impressively three beards, measuring 12”, 9 ½” and 7 5/16”. Without a doubt he’s the most impressive trophy I’ve ever taken. Thanks for making my dreams come true! You make a fantastic product that other calls can’t compare to.

A few friends and I were presented with the opportunity to visit the Derby City Game Calls shop and speak with Eric. He was more than happy to share these excellent calls with us and allowed us to test each one with many variations they offer. He had wonderful displays of each product and was very knowledgable about the work he and his staff create. There is no other place that will give you the individual attention that these guys do. They are not only the best call makers, they are also wonderful people. Their calls are second to none with several options of surface boards, sound boards, and exotic wood for the pots. I will recommend them to everyone I know. The workmanship and professionalism is unbeatable. If you get the chance, check out the calls these guys produce and you will not be disappointed. Turkey call making at its finest here in good ol' Kentucky.

I purchased my Derby City Magnum call before last spring season. The quality of this call in my opinion is unmatched. The sound of my new DC magnum is the closest I have gotten to the real thing. I only got to hunt a couple days last spring, the first day it was so windy I didn't expect to get any action but the Derby City Magnum brought them in. I have gotten two nice gobblers so far and look forward to many more. I have purchased two additional calls for my buddies out in California and they love them. I definitely recommend the derby city call, there is nothing out there right now that compares to the craftmanship, quality and sound.

This company makes a truly superb product and their commitment to customer satisfaction is on a level that is unheard of in today's marketplace. I would not hesitate nor think twice about recommending Derby City Calls to anyone.
Thank you gentleman!

I just recently got my Magnum call and have to say it is the finest friction call I've ever used! The other guys I hunt with were very impressed with the sound of the Magnum. The quality is excellent! Thank you for a great product!

Not only are the calls top notch so are the owners. Derby City Game Calls donated all supplies for 56 students to build their own calls in class. The quality of sound and materials used in these calls are second to none. Quality sound and materials second to none. Let the birds hear the sounds that only Derby City Calls can produce.

Jeff, and all those who aided in the development of your new line of calls,
Thank you. I took my oldest son Will on an afternoon hunt on opening day for his very first hunt ever and wow, what an adventure. There are three tracts of land that border the rear of our property and we had permission to hunt the two on the left and right. We started on the left with absolutely no vocal responses to our calls from any bird and held out for two hours just in case one snuck in under the radar. We then cut back to our property to check out what was going on over on the other side of our land and the opposite neighboring property. I proceeded to set up a hen decoy while Will found a few tadpoles in the creek that he wanted to show me. We fooled around in the creek for five minutes or so out of sight from a field that had full view of our decoy. When I finally stood up from the creek and began walking to our spot I immediately realized I’d been made by two jakes that were eyeing the decoy. I froze and waited for them to duck behind some tall grass and we high tailed it out of there with decoy in hand. We moved 50 or so yards up a steep hill, replanted our decoy and began calling with our new Magnum call. The birds were curious, just not as stupid as the guy who had just walked out in front of them just minutes before. As they began to move from right to left we relocated quickly back onto the other property as the birds made their way to us, so we hoped. We set up and started giving some soft purrs, yelps and clucks. Moments later we heard two hens responding. Will said, “There’s some turkeys dad, did you hear them?” I told him that they were definitely turkeys, but not the ones we were looking for. “Now we have competition,” I said. Well, the Magnum aluminum over glass with old striker brought the competition to within ten feet of our blind and the largest of the two jakes to within 25 paces from us. Will took the shot and the rest is history.
I appreciate the time you spent helping me choose the right call for my needs and getting it produced before opening day. I received the same attention when I purchased my banjos from First Quality several years ago. In my experience, whether it’s a $3000 banjo, a $60 game call or a couple of $2 finger picks you guys treat every transaction as if it were the most important one of the day. Thanks again for your continued support in helping me provide lifelong memories for both myself and my family.
I also want to thank John Wade who first told me about Derby City Calls and give a very special thanks to my son Will for a memory I will never forget.

Just got the two calls in and have been playing here is my review...
1.Flawless workmanship!
2. Some of the best Mahogany I have ever seen.
3. Best and I truly mean this, Best sounding slate call I have heard!
4. As good a value for the price as you will find.
5. There are a lot of outstanding Pot Call makers, Add Derby city to the list. With this kind of product they will be here a long time.
The more time I spend with the call the more I like It! I had my son play one of the Magnum slates at a distance outside and it sounded better than our best slate calls. The proof will be in the Spring and as my son Adam says, It will certainly give those Gobblers something to think about. My sons can't wait to get them to the woods. Thanks again to some great people at Derby City! Rev. Mike Mims

The Spur is awesome! It is easy to use and sounds great. I can not wait to use it this season. Thanks again. I am sure the gobblers will come running.
