Derby City Cookout
Derby City Calls held its first end of year cookout on May 22nd, 2011. This cookout was held for everyone who worked hard to make this year a success. All the Derby City staff and their families attended along with many of our new friends who were invited to share in the fun. Everyone had a great time eating, sharing stories, fishing, and playing cornhole. Unfortunately, the fun was cut a little short due to a pop-up thunderstorm. Our local weatherman, Dave French, gave us a 100% guarantee of no rain. We can now see why he does not work for the National Weather Service.
We would like to thank Jeff Rector for opening up Bullitt County Stone Company’s picnic area for us to use. The setting was a wonderful place to spend time with our families and friends. Thanks to Jeff and Eric Sullivan for being gracious enough to provide the food and thanks to Dave Berry for being the best cook in Southwest Jefferson County.
Thank you to everyone who gave Derby City a chance to help you bag a turkey this year and thanks to all who have submitted photos and testimonials of successful hunts. Derby City is looking forward to a banner year next year. We just may have a few new items for next year. Stay tuned…….
Dave Berry’s Super Jake
Derby City Pro Staffer, Dave Berry, tagged this super jake during Kentucky’s 2011 spring season. Dave and DC Pro Staffer, Scott Cronin, set up in a field and had two jakes come in as soon as the birds flew off the roost. This jake gobbled and put on a show until Dave dropped him at 50 yards.
This was a special hunt for me. Scott invited me, Dave, and my father to his Grayson County farm for a weekend hunt. I have tried to get my father to hunt for almost 35 years now. He recently started helping us make turkey calls and this peaked his interest. At 64 years old, dad finally went turkey hunting. It was a tough year to say the least, but he enjoyed it. Who knows, I may get him in the deer woods this year also.
Congrats Dave, on a SUPER JAKE.
