Dave & Tedd Ohio Turkey Calling Contest

This past weekend, Dave Johnson and Tedd Moffett, were in Cincinnati, OH competing in River Valley Longbeard’s 4th Annual Turkey Calling Contest. This was the first contest for both Dave & Tedd while using Derby City Calls. After the dust had settled Dave Johnson had taken 2nd Place in the Amateur Division and Tedd rounding out taking 5th. Tedd’s nerves had gotten the better of him, with a few slips on his fly down cackle. As for the Friction Division Dave ended up finishing 4th with Tedd coming in 7th.

All in all there was some very stiff competition in Ohio. This contest is known for having some of the most talented callers. Probably the only other contest to have as many talented callers competing is the Grand Nationals in Nashville. Congrats to Dave for bringing it all together and putting on a very clean run for both the Amateur and Friction Divisions and putting on a good showing for DCC.

Derby City Calls had a booth in the innovations zone for this year’s ATA show.  The trade show is an order writing event and is geared more to Archery, however, we had many people interested in checking out our high quality turkey calls.  Derby City signed up 6 dealers who will carry our calls this spring.  These dealers ranged from the deep South, up into the midwestern United States.  We hope to have a dealer page set up for our visitors soon.  This would allow you to drop in and check out what they have to offer if they are located close to you.

Derby City’s Jeff Sullivan, Brent Stoner, Rick Denkhoff, Dave Berry, Scott Cronin, Tedd Moffett, and myself helped man the booth for 3 days.  We met a lot of good people in the hunting industry and made some good connections.  We hope to establish good working relationships with many of these people.  We were really pleased with the responses we received on our calls.  Many people were interested in our newest release, the turkey track.  This call will be available soon on our website.  There are some pictures in this blog that show you the new design.  Let me assure you, this is not just one beautiful looking call, it sounds phenomenal.

We all had a great trip and are now focusing our attention to Nashville for the NWTF National Convention in February.  We will have several Turkey Track calls on hand, for all you diehard turkey hunting fanatics, to try.  If you are looking for a true one of a kind call this year, all I can tell you is “TRUE AMERICAN CHESTNUT.”  Hopefully, this will get you excited to come and see us.

JJ Reich did an article on the use of aluminum in the Turkey Calls section of this month’s Turkey Country magazine.  Derby City is excited to be featured in this column.  We are excited by the response we have received from turkey hunters all across the United States.  Derby City prides itself in producing high quality calls that not only look great, but more importantly, sound great. 

Derby City recently gained the NAHC Seal of Approval for our aluminum Magnum call.  We take pride in being featured in Turkey Country magazine along with the other outstanding calls mentioned in the article.  We strive to make calls that will help you fill your tags for years to come.  There were many longbeards that were fooled into gun range by Derby City calls this past spring.   We are anxiously waiting for the fall and spring turkey seasons to start up again.

Derby City…IT”S YOUR CALL!

Many youngsters visited Derby City’s booth at the NWTF Convention.  These young kids made for some of the most memorable moments at the convention.  We loved to have them come by and play with our calls.  Some played them like a pro and others have some practice ahead of them.  The good things is that they all had a good time and all have an interest in hunting.  We would like to say thank you to all the parents for instilling a desire to hunt in their children.  The future of hunting lies in their hands, that is why we encouraged every kid who came by our booth to scratch on our calls.  The picture of the little girl in this blog speaks for itself.
